PTI writes letter to NA speaker to verify resignations

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Thursday wrote a letter to the National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf to agree upon a time in the coming week for the verification of the resignations of the party members. This appears to be first serious move by PTI to quit the NA as the party lawmakers had verbally announced resignations in April but had never appeared before the NA speaker. Earlier in the day, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry had announced that a letter requesting time from the NA speaker was being drafted. The PTI leader took to his official Twitter handle maintaining that the letter is being written so that new elections can be held on the vacated seats. آج اسپیکر کو خط لکھا جا رہا ہے اور کہا ہے کہ وقت بتائیں کب ممبران اسمبلی اپنے استعفوں کی تصدیق کیلئے ایک بار پھر آپ کے پاس آئیں تا کہ نیا انتخابی عمل شروع کیا جا سکے — Ch Fawad Hussain (@fawadchaudhry) December 15, 2022 A day earlier, in a video address, PTI Chief Imran Khan had announced that all PTI National Assembly members — whose resignations have not been accepted — will ask the speaker inside the assembly to accept their resignations. Fawad also advised judges of the Supreme Court (SC) to first go through the verification process of every news that is reported in the media before making a statement on them. Judges should first go through the verification process of every news that comes to the media,” the tweet read. The former information minister added that this statement “was another government lie”. کل سپریم کورٹ میں کہا گیا کہ تحریک انصاف کے ممبران اسمبلی نہیں آ رہے لیکن تنخواہ لے رہے ہیں، جج صاحبان کو میڈیا پر آنے والی ہر خبر کو پہلے تصدیق کے عمل سے گزارنا چاہئے حقیقت یہ ہے کہ یہ ایک اور حکومتی جھوٹ تھا مستعفٰی ممبران کی تنخواہیں معطل ہیں اور کسی ممبر کو تنخواہ نہیں مل رہی — Ch Fawad Hussain (@fawadchaudhry) December 15, 2022 “The reality is that this was another government lie, the salaries of the resigned members have been suspended and none of the members are getting paid,” the former minister added. It is pertinent to note that PTI leader Qasim Suri, in his capacity as the acting speaker on April 13, had accepted the resignations of 123 PTI MNAs, who had abided by their party chairman’s appeal after his removal from the office of the prime minister through a no-confidence motion earlier that month. Earlier this week, the NA speaker urged PTI lawmakers to return to parliament, saying he would not accept any of their resignations unless he was “satisfied” that they were not tendered under duress.
